How Dare You Call Him a Gingerbread Man!
by Shelley Bueche
The Indiana Daily Student newspaper for Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, reported that they observed a campus cookie sale with gingerbread persons, as opposed to gingerbread men.
One longtime IU employee, Mary Frohliger noted that:
Run, run, run as fast as you can
You can’t catch me,
I’m the gingerbread person.
Did not have the same ring to it. She said it “didn’t work. You can’t do the rhyme without the man.”
I can see it now, opportunities galore for freelance writers willing to update nursery rhymes to adhere to today’s politically correct lingo. Jack Sprat could eat no high calorie substance material, his wife could eat no low calorie substance material. Jack’s wife was horizontally challenged. I don’t know about the kiddos, but that would lull me right to sleep!
