Martha’s Big Book DealThere are a couple of reasons why Martha Stewart’s much-touted memoir has not sold yet. First of all, she’s not allowed to do business from the big house (and I don’t mean her Turkey Hill estate), so a deal can only be announced when she is free. Since Martha is asking $10 million, publishers are in no hurry to buy her prison memoirs, as they question what they will get for their money. People aren’t too sure about how honest she will be in telling her story. Her appeal is predominately domestic and is national in scope. Outside of America Martha isn’t that famous. The Clintons, on the other hand, have enormous international appeal and were paid accordingly. Hillary got $8 million and Bill got $11 million. Publishers want to make money and are wondering if Martha will be an asset or a liability at this point in time. I think her memoirs will make for an interesting read. News Bulletin: Camp Cupcake is what Martha Stewart is calling home until her release in March. Home is Alderson Federal Prison in West Virginia, where she has been since October 8, 2004. |
