The Polar Express: Book vs. Movie

Tom Hanks and The Polar Express film have increased book sales. The Polar Express, written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg has climbed to the top of the New York Times bestseller list in the children’s category. The book’s original release date was in 1985, while going on to win the 1986 Caldecott Medal.

The film, however, is not faring so well. It cost over $100 million to make and has so far, brought in about $50 million. There is still time before Christmas and prior to 2005 to cash in on the movie. DVD sales could be a financial benefit for the film.
