Senior Athletics: GeezerJockMagazine
Finally, there is a serious senior athletics magazine for people 40-and-over. GeezerJock is a Masters sports and fitness publication that will be distributed quarterly and has a companion website at geezerjock.com.
Senior athletics is expected to boom as the U.S. population ages. In 2000 there were 120 million Americans age 40 and over. By 2020 there will be more than 160 million according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
GeezerJock is covering people who are still grabbing surfboards and riding horses even though they are 60 or 70 and older. Through word of mouth alone, the website has generated over 7,000 sign-ups.
The official debut issue is in March and features a men’s senior baseball league, and a profile on several women who have discovered athletic ability in their later years.
GeezerJock Media LLC publishes GeezerJock Magazine and operates geezerjock.com out of Chicago. Their goal is to cover the good, the bad, and the ugly of serious Masters and senior athletics ranging from track and field and swimming to baseball and basketball.
Although I don’t think of my self as having reached geezer-status yet, I certainly fall into the above-mentioned age brackets as I continue to ride some pretty rank horses. I love the name of the magazine.
