A WriterOnLine Publication

   Dear Readers,

It's November! Halloween has passed, and it is the momentary lull before the holidays take us by storm. Enjoy the peace and quiet, the blustery November days, a cup of hot chamomile tea, with honey, of course, and long afternoons at the keyboard. There is something about this time in between: the muse sings and we hear, we ponder, we write in rhythm to the encroaching darkness.

This issue offers you bountiful good reading including Part 2 of Peter Bowerman's look at the field of commercial writing in "Starving Writer No More." Find out more about Peter's new book in my review of The Well-Fed Writer: Back for Seconds. You'll love and laugh uproariously at Christina Hamlett's playwriting horror story in "All That Glitters, Part 3." Would you ever think of Kung Fu and writing as parallel activities? Terrie Leigh Relf tells why this is true in her article, "The Kung Fu of Writing: How to Begin a Daily Practice and Work Toward the Black Belt of Professional Writer." Have you ever had a dream and found that when that dream came true it wasn't all that you thought? Explore this poignant theme in Lisa Marie Middendorf's short story, "USPS." Last, but assuredly not least, our faithful editors Stephanie Olsen and Debi Staples provide their bi-weekly fare: Paying Markets and News, respectively. And don't forget our contest and puzzle!! We have some special challenges for you this issue.

Please keep your feedback and comments rolling in -- tell us what you like, don't like, and want to see more of. We truly appreciate and value your input.

So, until next issue -- keep that ink flowing and those keys a'clacking!

My warm regards,
Mary Anne Donovan
