A WriterOnLine Publication
Dear
Readers,
First, I want to thank you for all of your
emails in response to our first issue. We were truly overwhelmed
by your enthusiasm and kind words, and thankful for your
ideas and suggestions. Please keep your feedback coming! We have what we're pretty sure you'll think
is a fabulous line up of poetry, fiction, and articles
in this issue. First, reading Jodi
Rowland's poetry is like falling into a soft, down-filled
pillow. Then the anguish of a hard life on the farm is
captured in Lisa Marie Middendorf's short story, "1984
Move to the Farm." Grace Tierney makes the most
of the holiday by turning us onto writing for the season
in "Horror
Writing Contests." In her essay "A
Perfect Day for Writers," Mary Anne Hahn shares
the results of a workshop exercise she conducts with writing
students and the results may surprise you! Next. Regina
Allen gives us the scoop on how to assess the value of
writers' conferences in her article, "A
Time to Review: Assessing Conferences." And last
in the article line up is a great piece by Terrie Leigh
Relf on finding your writer's voice: "Is
That Your Voice That I Hear...?" In addition are our regular features including Debi
Staple's News column, Stephanie
Olsen's Paying Markets, and of course, our ever challenging Contest and Puzzle! Several of you wrote to ask about submitting
to Writer Online. We have developed Submission Guidelines
that you can access by clicking here. We are also looking for a Technical Writing
Editor to join our staff. If you have publication and practical
experience in the profession of technical writing, please
email me at editor@writeronline.us There you have it for this issue, hope you
enjoy it. Happy Ghost and Goblin day. Keep those keyboards clicking and ink flowing. Until next issue

Is
That Your Voice That I Hear…?
Some Thought on the Writer's Voice
by Terrie
Leigh Relf
I remember when I first started taking writing classes
and the discussion would inevitably turn to writers
voice. “You need to develop your voice,” they’d
say, or “here is a writer whose voice isn’t
consistent,” or “this writer has obviously
not developed her voice yet.”... More
