Sunshine on Her Face

Lydia Burdick searched her local bookstores for an appropriate picture book to share with her mother who had advanced Alzheimer's disease .   Her search was in vain.   After frustration set in, she sat down to compose her own book to share with

her mother.   The Sunshine on My Face , was written and published by Health Professions Press and a sequel is planned for later this year.   With just one sentence per page, starting with the words:   I love (I love to take naps in the afternoon, I love to sit outside and watch people walk by), this book is large enough for the caregiver and Alzheimer patient to look at together, sitting side by side.   The author lost her mother to Alzheimer's in 2003, but has many memories of her mother, that live on.   “Do you like the sunshine on your face?”   The author asked her mother.   Her mother replied:   “I do!   I do!”
