Online Consumption Surpasses Magazine Readership

The Internet now has a wider audience than magazines do.   According to a study conducted by the American Press Institute, media consumption shapes up as the following:

  • Television reached 94% of those surveyed, averaging 272 minutes of viewing time daily

  • Radio reached 73% of those in the survey, averaging 122 minutes of listening time daily

  • Newspapers had a 59% following, with those surveyed spending 29 minutes reading the daily paper

  • The Internet captured 51% of those surveyed; the average respondent spent 73 minutes online

  • Magazines were read by only 42% of those surveyed, with a mere 19 minutes spent reading the magazines each day.
