After Rain

by Kevin Bezner

for Joe Champion

The rain finally
stopped

the creek runs wild
white over riffles

as if this were water
where trout could hide

Geese float in streams
a week ago grass

These streams come and go
go where streams go

Wind through the trees
twigs and green leaves fall

The blue heron is gone
but perched in gray trees

above the muddied
beaver pond

two white herons
bright against all the gray
