Ode to the Nineties
by Barbara E. Connor
Planned obsolescence
Flights to the moon
Virtual reality
Cloning soon
Eatable underwear
Sperm bank deposits
Gender preferences
Out of closets
Database internets
On-line porn
Channel surfing
Night through morn
Tornadoes, floods
Hurricanes, freezes
Volcanic eruptions
Unnatural breezes
Explosions, implosions
Desert Storm
Pathfinder missiles
Abominable norm,
Instant gratification
Quality time
Infomercials
Serial Crime
Psycho babble
Cyber-space
Very well
May have a place
Still buzz words come
And buzz words go
Ever was, old dear
Will be ever so
Ah, but fifty candles,
A haunting tune
And you'll soon forget
That trip to the moon
For nothing compares
To the lasting effects
When your lover's beside you
And you're having great sex.

Barbara E. Connor writes, "After two marriages, nine kids, and 20 years in retail, I am finally in a place where I can pursue my first and abiding love, writing. My work has been published in regional magazines, periodicals and newspapers. By some stroke of good fortune, my first piece of fiction, a short story entitled "Ashes to Ashes," was published in April as part of a collection of short stories titled Touch of Paradise." |
