Trouble in Paradox
By R. Allan Penar
I want to write a poem today.
I, er...I,um...I mean to say,
Inspired by the springtime air
I sit to write...the words aren't there.
The theme is picked, and then in time
The keyboard clicks, but words won't rhyme.
When called for words my brain just cowers
It just can't find a rhyme for flowers.
My innate metronome for meter
Acts like a band without a leader,
And all the words I've ever read
Are stuck for now within my head.
No matter what I do or say
The words stand fast and there they stay.
Words just start forth and then they tarry.
They're glued into the dictionary.
The time is late, so says the clock,
I'm tired of fighting writer's block.
Tomorrow I may write a tome.
Today won't see my springtime poem.
'Til my mind clears and words are met,
This silly poem is all you'll get.
