A Month of Days

by T.M. Wright

Let's make a picnic this month, something
small, only us and the food and the day:
whatever else we might bring I think we bring
everywhere--to supermarkets and theaters
and the homes of friends, to dinner at 6:00
and dog walking, and
to the writing of poems
especially.

We carry a
basket filled with goodies wherever we go
looking for a picnic
and green areas,
a sky that pleases, an earth
which does not turn.

T.M. Wright's first collection of his short fiction (including a novella), poetry and art, "Bone Soup," will appear in hardcover from Cemetery Dance Publications early in 2005.
