Top 10 Poetry Markets

There are many different voices of poetry. Sadly, many are of the free nature or simply contests. But this time, poetry writers have the chance to be published for more than just a byline. The markets included may accept other material, but this is not noted within the parameters outlined below. Additionally, all markets pay a minimum of $10. Who knew poetry could pay so well?

The Capilano Review
A tri-annual publication devoted to publishing the best in fiction, poetry and visual art.

They stress the importance of reviewing a back issue to understand what they are looking for in submissions. Send a minimum of five poems. Include a SASE. If submitting outside of Canada, use Canadian postage or include an IRC. Email and disk submissions are not accepted. Direct submissions to The Capilano Review, 2055 Purcell Way, North Vancouver, BC, V7J 3H5.

The Chattahoochee Review
A literary magazine published quarterly. Does not entertain genres such as romance or science fiction.

Dana Literary Society Online Journal

The North American Review
As the oldest literary magazine, The North American Review requires material that is well-crafted and high quality.

12th Planet Literary Magazine
A quarterly publication focusing on poetry.

Imagery is more important than rhyming.

The Poet's Canvas
Publishes quarterly, featuring poems and prose.

An online journal leaning toward the speculative and experimental.

The Sun
Not literary in nature; it picks up where the traditional
literature magazines leave off.

A thought-provoking magazine that promotes diversity.

Published biannually, featuring contemporary work.

Does not accept unsolicited email submissions. Queries via email is acceptable. Include SASE for queries and submissions sent via postal mail. Submit markets for consideration to scribbers@runbox.com. These markets should be freelance-friendly; paying markets always preferred. While they do not necessarily need to be easy to
break into, please make sure the magazine does accept freelance work.
