James Brandt to discuss his book, Outpost Seven, in San Francisco

I will be at the Community School/Tehran American School reunion in San Francisco August 1-4. Saturday afternoon, I will hold an informal meeting with anyone who wants to discuss the origins of the book (it is strongly based on Middle Eastern culture), sci-fi in general, and to sign copies in the hotel Argent Hotel. This is a small gathering, not open to the public, but anyone from anywhere may attend with a reservation. Please email me at jbrandt@brandtmediaworks.com for details.

The members of my Community School graduation class include several published authors, quite a few millionaires (which is disgusting for an impoverished writer!), and the 50 member graduating class represented 30 different countries and 43 different faiths.

Trudy Schuett wants your vote!

When I'm not writing articles for WOL or presiding at the WOLves program I write fiction; so when an editor friend in OZ started a contest to give a free edit to a book entered, of course I had to give it a shot. He chose the finalists based on their merit, without the names of the authors attached. The next phase is up to the individual authors--to get the people on their networks to go to Dr. Bob's site and vote! The one with the most votes wins.

He's sweetened the deal by offering a free copy of one of his books to everyone who registers a vote. He's got some great books, too.

BTW-- my book's #10, entitled Heart Man. There's also an excerpt at the site you can read. Hope you like it! The deadline is Aug. 7th, so don't put it off!

Seeds of Faith: An Inspirational Almanac available through booksellers, the authors available for interviews:

“I was convinced of the righteousness of my indignation until halfway through The Grinch (how appropriate!). My son, way past the hand-holding age, reached over and squeezed mine with all the love he could muster. In that instant, my heart flooded with shame over my behavior. I had attacked an innocent man and worried my son because of my own frustrations.” (excerpted from “Popcorn and Pride” in Seeds of Faith: An Inspirational Almanac)

WHO: Angie Ledbetter, freelance writer, mother and co-author of Seeds of Faith: An Inspirational Almanac

WHAT: Seeds of Faith: An Inspirational Almanac (May 2003), a collection of personal essays, tips, recipes and poetry chronicling the personal experiences of four women, ranging from addiction, parenting issues, relationships, infertility, and joy meant to inspire others to “plant their own seeds of faith.”

WHY: A landmark study from UCLA suggests that friendships between women may do more than scientists had thought. According to Dr. Laura Klein, women respond to stress with a torrent of brain chemicals that cause them to make and maintain friendships with other women, which in turn, soothe their tumultuous inner worlds, fill emotional gaps and help them remember who they are.

Best friends and co-authors Angie Ledbetter, Alaine Benard, Deb Anne Flynt and Carol Schwartz have experienced a multitude of benefits from the time that they have spent together. What began as a correspondence through a writer’s group over the Internet developed into a deep friendship that has withstood the tests of time and distance. Although they are very different women from somewhat different backgrounds, Angie, Alaine, Carol and Deb have managed to find a common bond through their faith, their families and their love for writing.

As a guest or story reference, Angie can discuss:

· Tips for de-stressing after a long day
· The importance of maintaining friendships with women
· How to find time during a busy day for prayer and reflection
· Creative ways to set goals for yourself

Seeds of Faith shows how ordinary women turn adversity into success, suffering into grace, despair into hope and loss into riches to inspire readers to live joyfully in whatever cycle of life they may find themselves. They deal with issues like coping with a child with ADHD, loving your reflection in the mirror and recipes for the best homemade cleaning products. The women hope that this book will inspire others to love themselves for who they are and take a little time to enjoy the ride.

Seeds of Faith is available at www.amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com or from the publisher at www.turnkeypress.com.
