Fiction—A Thing of the Past?

Everybody’s doin’ it; that is penning their stories in a memoir.  Why, even Saddam Hussein is searching for a literary agent for his book, “Be Gone Demons;” apparently it is a novel.

What do Sylvester Stallone, Paris Hilton, George Foreman and Dennis Rodman have in common?  They have all written memoirs.  Jack Engelhard, author of the bestselling novel “Indecent Proposal,” puts part of the blame for the demise of the novel, on C-Span.  C-Span, according to Engelhard, “which does books on weekends.  In fact the announcer comes on early Saturday morning and Sunday morning to warn the rest of us, fiction lovers to back off.  Nonfiction only.”
