With Literary Lemons You Get Lemon Aid
In New York, Lit Lite is on the menu at Elmo, a restaurant in the Chelsea neighborhood. With a mere $5 cover charge, you can join others as they read out loud from bad writing (books, blogs, you name it) in the opinions of the participants.
“When I first met Christy—and this is no joke—a cliché but no joke—it was like my heart was literally stuck on my esophagus,” as one attendee read from “Ash Wednesday.”
Flotilla DeBarge (gotta love that moniker!), a tall man in woman’s clothing, sauntered up to read his/her prose selection. Appropriate clothing and accessories are encouraged by this group also making the evening a memorable one.
Grady Hendrix, one of the organizers sums up Lit Lite with the following statement, “To pick something that’s bad and bad enough to be entertaining is really a lot of work.”
