A WOL Publication

Hello, writers,

Tuesday, 19th of July - a time for one more WOL paying markets newsletter.

This time we have a nice article by Denisha LeSene. It is called "Writing Without A Pen". I am sure you will enjoy reading it.

Last two weeks was a success to the subscribers of JustMarkets Daily again. They received 238 fresh new telecommute paying markets and freelance writing jobs to their mailboxes. And again I got several emails sharing the success our subscribers reached from the markets presented by our daily listings. Here are some quotes from them:

Steve wrote:
"I received 2 well-paying telecommute jobs from JM list last week. <...> That is additional $1200 to my pocket. Thank you for your excellent service."
Great, Steve, keep up the good work too.

A note from Sheryll:
"Hi Kevin! How are you today? <...> I just wanted to let you know that I landed a story through my daily JustMarkets email. <...> I have wanted to break into the GBLT market for a long time and this is a wonderful opportunity to reach more than 100,000 GBLTs in Southern California. Many thanks to JustMarkets!! :):)"
I am very happy for you, Sheryll. Thanks for being with us!!

Why don't you try to land some great telecommute writing jobs too? Go through the list of markets in this biweekly newsletter.

Writing Without A Pen

By Denisha LeSene

One thing that I’ve learned as a writer is that it takes a lot of dedication to hone your skill. Concentration, finesse and time are all important factors to improving your writing. Especially if you’re doing it to make a living. I’ve found that doing writing exercises is a great way to practice.

Some of the best writing exercises that I do are in my head. Of course I keep a small notebook and a pen with me wherever I go so that I can jot down a great idea when it comes to me. But, for the most part, I like to keep it in my mind. It teaches me to think on my feet and reduces the chance of writers block. Here are a few exercises that I enjoy:

NON-FICTION:
1. Eavesdrop: listen to people and how they interact with one another. Listen as friends gossip about what’s going on in their lives. Is there an interesting event or situation in their lives that could affect many people? If so, you’ve got a new idea for an article.
2. Hobbies: I go through phases in my life where I’m interested in one thing. At the moment, it’s making a scrapbook for my baby girl. So why not get paid to write about it as I learn about it?

FICTION:
1. Stand in Line: if you’re waiting for an ATM machine or an open register, take a look around you. Notice the people and make-up a scenario in your head. Maybe the pregnant woman behind you starts
having contractions or the guy at the next register pulls out a gun to rob the place.
2. A Game of Questions: ask people questions to see how they think they would respond to a situation. If you had a son who wanted to join the military, would you support him? What if it was your daughter? Everyone will respond to the same situation differently. Asking several people the same question can help gauge what would be a good scene in a story. Put a couple of answers together to make it more interesting.

For me, doing these exercises is like doing all of my preliminary thinking ahead of time. When I sit down to write, I don’t have to pause and think, “Now, what?” because I’ve done my brainstorming. It’s just a matter of getting it on paper. And that helps to make me a better writer.

I have been writing since I was a child. Mostly to myself. Now that I'm a mother I'm ready to do what I love for a living. I starting writing stories and found that I enjoyed writing shorter pieces as well (like articles). Hopefully, I can share some of the things I have learned with other writers. I have done every aspect of writing there is. I've been a professional proofreader for a catalog, I've been a staff writer for a hockey magazine, and I've written promotional pieces for a college club. What can I say, I'm in love with the written word!!
