Magellan or Dickinson?

by Jodi Rowland

After having a conversation with my eleven-year-old sister the other day about other cultures and religion, I came to the realization that although I’ve seen many movies, television shows, and heard of others’ tales, I have not actually been to another country (other than Canada, which is similar to the U.S.) to experience these places and people firsthand.  This realization shocked me, for I generally consider myself to be open-minded toward others and extremely interested and intrigued to learn about other cultures.  Overall, since this conversation, all that has come out of it for me is a further desire to see other places in the world.  But, before I make it to the corners of the earth, and hopefully back home, I’d like you to share your tales with me.  In 500 words or less, tell about your experience(s) with another culture—the people, the land, and everything you may have experienced or felt.  Or, if you haven’t had the opportunity to travel the seas or lands, tell about the places you would like to visit and the people you would like to meet.

Winners from our prior contests will be posted in upcoming issues.  Sorry for the delay!
